Why We Do This:
The Heart Behind Board Bound
Every story deserves to be heard with dignity and heart.
We know that behind every parole packet is a person with a story — someone who has worked hard to grow, reflect, and move forward. We believe that every person deserves the chance to present that story with dignity, authenticity, and strength.
At Board Bound, LLC, we specialize in helping clients present their strongest case to the Parole Board — highlighting personal growth and readiness for release, while honoring each client’s unique voice and journey.
We partner closely with clients and attorneys to ensure every packet is thoughtfully prepared and powerfully presented.
Drawing from experience, insight, and compassion, we’ll guide you through every step of the process and help ensure your voice comes through in the strongest way possible.
Our goal is simple: to help you build a powerful packet that speaks truthfully to who you are today — not just where you’ve been. We bring proven expertise in packet development: a deep understanding of Board expectations, and a sharp eye for effective presentation strategies.
Why Board Bound Exists: Closing the Gap in Parole Preparation
Board Bound, LLC was founded to bridge a critical gap in parole preparation: the need for meaningful, ongoing support between the time an attorney is hired and the hearing itself. Too often, after the hard work of securing legal representation, clients are left navigating the bulk of preparation alone. Many attorneys have limited capacity to engage deeply with clients before the hearing — despite clients’ deep need for connection, guidance, and accountability as they ready themselves to appear before the Board. Board Bound was created to meet that need with care and integrity.
Founder Alesha Monteiro brings years of experience spearheading and continuing to lead the Parole Board Project — an initiative of Just Advocate, Inc., dedicated to researching systemic issues within the California Board of Parole Hearings. The project is a formal partnership with Prison From the Inside Out (FTIO), combining organizational resources and research capacity to conduct in-depth analysis of CA parole board transcripts and trends. Through this collaborative effort, ongoing university partnerships, and a commitment to legislative and policy change, Alesha has developed an unparalleled understanding of Board dynamics, barriers to release, and effective preparation strategies. That insight directly informs the individualized, strategic support offered through Board Bound.
Board Bound, LLC is an independent, for-profit business; insights from Alesha’s leadership of the Parole Board Project (a nonprofit initiative) inform her consulting work, with all operations kept fully separate.

Our Process: How We Work
At Board Bound, LLC, we believe that each person’s journey is unique — and so is the packet we help create.
Here’s what you can expect when you work with us:
1. Initial Consultation
We begin with an in-depth conversation to understand your goals, timeline, and personal story. We’ll review any materials from previous parole board hearings and identify what is needed to build your strongest presentation.
2. Gathering Your Story & Support Materials
You’ll share your handwritten work, reflections, or typed documents — in whatever format feels most comfortable. We’ll also support your family or loved ones in gathering key materials and photos that reflect your growth and story, ensuring your packet is both personal and powerful.
3. Packet Development
We transform your raw content into a polished, professional packet designed to resonate with the Board. Every packet is built to highlight your growth, insight, and readiness for release — while remaining an authentic reflection of you.

4. Collaboration & Feedback
Throughout the process, you’ll have opportunities to review drafts and provide feedback. We work collaboratively to ensure your voice and truth come through clearly and persuasively.
5. Finalization & Delivery
Once finalized, we provide you with a complete, ready-to-submit packet. Any requested add-ons or translations are seamlessly incorporated into the final product. We also remain available to coordinate with your attorney or legal representative if needed.
How We Work
Our Commitment:
We treat every client’s story with dignity, respect, and care. We are here to partner with you and help you chart your path to freedom.
How We Work: Collaborative & Holistic Approach
Board Bound maintains a deliberately limited caseload to ensure each client receives focused, personal attention. The goal is never volume — it is readiness and freedom. Board Bound actively welcomes collaboration with attorneys and legal teams, recognizing that partnership between legal counsel and consultant offers the strongest foundation for client success. Regular updates and aligned preparation are integral to this approach.
Additionally, Board Bound encourages engagement with family members, friends, or other support people the client wishes to involve (with the client’s express permission). This ensures the preparation process is truly holistic and honors each person’s unique needs and support system.
At Board Bound, every packet is crafted with care, every client is treated with dignity, and every effort is rooted in one mission: helping people prepare, present, and pursue their freedom.
